I have reviewed the debdiff in comment #24. I validated that is indeed a reasonable backport of the commit that was identified in comment #9.

I have successfully tested it with our usual security team test scripts.

While it may be possible for the backport to introduce a bug, I can't see anything that particularly stands out as being problematic and I believe we should go ahead with this SRU.
