programme in wine will not connect to internet

Have installed a stock charting software(FC charts ; Space Jock Software)in Wine.Mainly because I can not Get what I want from available Linux packages.This software is a free opensource version which I have used for over a year in windows XP with no problems.It appears to have installed ok and be running ok apart from some pretty ordinary looking fonts.My problem is that the data loader appears as per usual but does not connect to the net,nothing happens.Is there some generic problem/procedure that must be carried out to let this loader talk to the net from within Wine.Hope someone can help.

Having just installed that software, I'm not sure what to do to reproduce your problem. Could you please outline the steps you go through after a clean install to get the problem?

Hei Greg!

I went to the website and the programmer seems to have made FC charts run
under linux using wine.

I would recommend installing IE 4 Linux just in order to see if its only the
application not connecting to the Internet or Wine itself.

If IE surfs as normal, and FC charts does not I would suggest you send a bug
to SpaceJock and tell him about the problem.

I have had problems with Wine not connecting to the internet before, It
helped with a distro upgrade. (to a newer Ubuntu version)

Which Ubuntu version are you using?

Should have done more homework.Went to Wine website software not supported.Will try another approach

Thanks for the input.You guys must have posted while I was compiling message.To answer first reply it is only the data loader that will not connect to net. the rest of the programme works fine.In answer to second question I have not double checked but I think the application that succesfully installed in Wine was another app. by the same guy and he was only indicating that it may work.I would be interested to know if you have this package working properly, if not I think I will look for another approach as Wine is a fairly messy way to use a package ,especially when I use this type of software a lot.The reason I migrated to Ubuntu (dapper ) was to get away from the cluttered Windows environment and continual fine tuning.In the longer term I want a straight Gnome product.
    Qtstalker as available in the repositories in dapper is buggy and the downloader doesnt work either because of date issues with Yahoo. if I have to muck around with text files to make it work I may as well go straight into creating my own charts with the data in a spreadsheet.Anyway thanks again for the input it is much appreciated.
