zpool won't mount affter upgading from vmlinuz-4.4.0-93-generic to vmlinuz-4.4.0-210-generic on xenial

Asked by serge abidal

I have fzs running happily on xeniall from years. After a kernel update from vmlinuz-4.4.0-93-generic to vmlinuz-4.4.0-210-generic , my zpool won't mount anymore. Manually importing with zpool import failed with a message saying feature org.zfsonlinux:.userobj_accounting is active on the pool and the run system does'nt support this feature.

I can still mount it in read-only . I just can't see why upgrading the kernel, will break this feature as we are still running on linux.

Is there any additionnal, actions to run after updating the kernel. ?

For now I keep booting on my previous kernel image.

ps:

1. Are you aware that standard support for Ubuntu 16.04 has already ended two years ago (it is now in ESM status)?

2. If the zpool programs that do not work as expected come from a PPA, then you have to ask the provider of the PPA, in this case https://launchpad.net/~jonathonf/+contactuser

3. Are there any messages about zfs in the system logs?

4. Have you tested any intermediate kernels between 4.4.0-93-generic and 4.4.0-210-generic, such that you are able to indicate the first release where the function does not work any more?

Thank for your quick answer.

#1 Are you aware that standard support for Ubuntu 16.04 has already ended two years ago (it is now in ESM status

yes I do understand, I'am running Jammy on other system, Not yet ready to upgrade this one bcoz of harware incompatibility ;-(

#2 you have to ask the provider of the PPA, in this case https://launchpad.net/~jonathonf/+contactuser

Sure, I'll do that.

#3 Are there any messages about zfs in the system logs?

Yep, the same message output by the zpool cmd.

#4 Have you tested any intermediate kernels between 4.4.0-93-generic and 4.4.0-210-generic... ?

great idea.

I understand that even if the root cause is the kernel or zfs package, its better for me to upgrade my hardware/distribution.

Thank for your help. I'm going test intermediate kernel version.
