When will zfs-2.1.0 be avail?

Asked by Derrick

Noticed I cannot install zfs on my Ubuntu 21 OS which has 5.12 kernal installed cause the zfs currently in this package is not the current ZoL release which supports said 5.12 (and .13)

the current package only supports 5.10 according to the configure erorr when I ran apt install zfsutils-linux

in the meantime, pending availability of Zol 2.1 via this package, is there a way one can build it on Ubuntu manually? Do you have any tips or resources I can review to try this ?

There is no "Ubuntu 21 OS", but there are two different versions, Ubuntu 21.04 (hirsute) and Ubuntu 21.10 (impish, currently in development). see e.g. https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle
Which one are you running?

From which source did you install the 5.12 version of the kernel? This is not a supported kernel version in Ubuntu.

And for zfs:
You have to be aware that Ubuntu re-uses software packages from Debian, and also Debian is only on version 2.0.3.
There is already a bug report requesting an update in Debian, see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=991896
I assume that Ubuntu will start working only when Debian has created a new package.

If you want to build your own version, you probably best start at https://github.com/openzfs/zfs

After upgrading to 21.04, I installed 5.12 kernel via the 'Ubuntu Mainline' kernel switching app.

The main issue I have is on new laptop Asus G14 2021
and wifi on it is only working in 5.11 or higher
in addition to some graphics features that need 5.12

I will keep an eye on that Debian bug to get an idea of when zfs 2.1 will eventually land in Ubuntu. Thanks for clarifying.
