can zeitgeist be safely removed?

Asked by kapthar

Under Natty we notice zeitgeist taking up time and space. We understand it is used with Unity and, therefore, may be un-removable. Additionally, although we advocate open source software, we do no advocate spyware (if zeitgeist may be labeled as such), or any program designed to reveal our data files or activities without our permission.
This is quite serious to us and we have to resolve it.
Question is : can we safely remove zeitgeist without adversely affecting other Natty procedures?

sudo apt-get remove zeitgeist seems to have worked. We don't use the advanced screen options of Unity, preferring to stick with the classic version for a lot of reasons. So far, no problems have been found as a result of the removal. We will log anything that we find connected to this issue. It seems that most problems can be solved by knowing where to look for answers. We don't know if we are missing something, but there appear to be lots of answer places kicking around.
Anyway, thanks for the help.
