youtube downloader has been updated but wont allow me to download video.

I have updated youtube-dl but when I go to download video it comes back with a warning
WARNING: Falling back on generic information extractor. followed by Invalid URL.. it isn`t a youtube video but was told it should still download???

Could try downloader addons and extensions for browsers. If you are intending to rip the audio from the video then I suggest you use this page

Ok let me rephrase the question..How can I download flv files other than youtube videos using ubuntu terminal youtube-dl?

Also multiple Web pages exist and also with integrated converters (to mp3) . Just search in Google.
