trying to get camcorder to work so i can capture videos

Asked by lushmeadow

I have a sony DCR-TRV260 mini dv camcorder, still takes the tapes and transfers to the computer via firewire, im running ubuntu 9.10 and ive manage to get all of my other peripheral devices to work but i just cant seem to get this camcorder to capture to the computer. ive checked with the manufacture and they only provide windows and mac drivers and software so as far as i know i do not have drivers for the camera and when i try to run Kino i get "WARNING: raw1394 kernel module not loaded or failure to read/write /dev/raw1394!" and i just dont know what to do, please any help?

Short answer: try using "gksudo kino" and see if that works for you.
