GCC 2.95 is more than 10 years old (which is to say about 5 years older that ubuntu...) It will be kind of hard to install, you could try downloading it from the official website http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-2.95/ or check the old debian repositories http://packages.debian.org/etch/gcc-2.95 [1]

As for the other two packages 'xlibs-dev' doesn't exist anymore, now you'll need to use 'xorg-dev'

Hope it helps!

[1] Seeing as the package does exist in debian etch it might be easy to simply install etch http://www.debian.org/releases/etch/index.en.html You'll find it similar to ubuntu (after all ubuntu is based in debian)

Do you know which version of Debian Linux has gcc 2.95 ?

Yes, 'etch' is the version that has gcc 2.95 as you can see from the software repository link I posted before (http://packages.debian.org/etch/gcc-2.95).

I think a good question would be is why do you have to install those specific packages?

If you can tell us then there is a possiblity that we can point you in another direction in order to get the job you want done easier.

Ohh that's the question! sorry... =P I believe etch is version number 4.0 you can download it from http://www.debian.org/releases/etch/index.en.html

You can also try Mark's suggestion (http://www.trevorpounds.com/blog/?tag=ubuntu) it might be easier.

apt-cache policy gcc-2.95
