ubuntu 9.10 at startup i get one or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted

Asked by kumar

Hi, i have recently upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04 through update manager.. my system is a dual boot of windows 7 and ubuntu 9.10.. whenever i try to open ubuntu 9.10, i get the msg- "one or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab cannot yet be mounted swap: waiting for UUID=............................. press esc. to enter a recovery shell." the system eventually startup either after few seconds or by pressing esc. but i guess because of this, the startup time is over one minute right now.. i googled it and got to know that its a comon problem or bug, but couldn't get any convincing solution.. how to get rid of this... thanks...

I had a similar problem after installing a dual boot system with Ubuntu and Win 7, after installing Ubuntu I then had to reinsert My Win 7 disc and run the startup repair wizard, now Grub works fine and both systems boot as they should, might be worth a go as it is a very simple fix.

Check you have not in fstab an external hard disk.
System->Administration->GParted : check UUID in partition property is same as in fstab.
