cd driver is not working at all when ever i put a cd inside it is not working at all

my cd driver is not working at all when ever i put a cd inside it is not working at all.
i already reported this problems https://answers.launchpad.net/~muhnabulsi
but the answer was not so clear for me because i am not so good in ubuntu yet so please slowly with me

Please be sure to upgrade your system you can do it from terminal or from update-manager, we doing using terminal, so please open a terminal by pressing ctr+alt+t and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-restricted-extras

give your user password when the system ask for a password then press enter.
Note: you will not see any screen chars when you type your password into terminal so type then press enter.

Then retry...

I had the same problem after I installed 12.04. I did the sudo commands as listed but the last line did not work as written "sudo apt-get --reinstall install ubuntu-restricted-extras". After a little playing with the words I found that this worked "sudo apt-get istall ubuntu-restricted-extras". How ever after all this and waiting for 3 hours. We have very slow internet here in Philippines, I still have the same problem. My cd wont work. It worked in 11.10 but not now and all that was done was install 12.04. I really would like to install my music onto the PC. Thanks. Dave. <email address hidden>
