Going from live boot to booting from hard disk?

Asked by Rick M

I selected Karmic to load from within Windows (I think) as if it was a regular program. However, if I do not have the installer CD in the computer on startup the computer loads straight into Windows Vista. When I do have the installer disk present the computer asks which OS I'd like to run. I assume this is normal, yes?

Assuming I am running Ubuntu from WITHIN Windows, I now want to run it from the computer's internal hard drive instead of the CD. I have everything loaded on Ubuntu the way I want it and would prefer that nothing changes from its current setup. Is there a way to switch from running Ubuntu from the CD to running it from the hard drive?

I have two hard drives on my computer. Rather than mounting the second one as a removable device I would like to set it up so that Ubuntu understands it is a hard drive every single time.

I intend to maintain Windows in case I need to run a program that is anti-Linux. Thanks for all your help.

Hey Rick,

If you boot up with the Ubuntu CD/DVD in place, and choose to boot off the CD/DVD, it will give you a chance to Install Ubuntu on your hard drive. Just follow the installation until you get to the partition manager. The default at that point is to install side by side with windows, but you may want to customize a bit for your situation.

Can you help with this problem?
