How can I run SQL commands in Ubuntu 9.10

I have to run simple SQL commands on my Ubuntu 9.10. I prefer a small sized application. Which will suite for me?

I think you'll have to elaborate a little on what you're actually trying to do.

Usually when people need to run SQL commands, they need to do so in order to store data in a database or retrieve data from one. Is there a specific piece of software you're trying to run that requires a database?
