how to report a bug

Asked by Doug

seriously wtf?

Clicking report a bug takes you to the help page. Following the links takes you back to launchpad. clicking report a bug takes you to the help page.

reminds me of of trying to report *anything* to microsoft.

Although the process DOES seem a bit convoluted, the help page does cover it. From https://launchpad.net/ubuntu, select the package that contains your bug. (Click [Find a package] and scroll through - click on the name of offending package). Then select "report a bug".

(Also in the help page)
To report a bug when you don't know the package name https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug/?no-redirect

Thats nice, BUT it is not always obvious which package to relate the bug to, especially if you are new to *nix.

For example: I have a bug with the automounting of my camera preventing my downloading of images from the camera. It happens with all image applications, so its not any of those packages. And since I don't know the inner workings of ubuntu I have no clue what package to select.

I suppose I could pick a package at random but what does that accomplish?

In that case, I'd go for the second option:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug/?no-redirect
