I can't use my Huawei ETS 2251 modem on Karmic. Not even recognised

I have been using my dial up Huawei ETS 2251 modem on windows smoothly. I switched to Ubuntu 9.10 but the OS does not even recognise it. Could you please help me . I have tried using scandisk and related stuff contained in the inbuilt help but to no avail. Please help me.
