Latest kernel image not displayed in Lucid Ubuntu 10.04

Asked by Rajinder Sandhu

Hi All,
Seems to be another problem with GRUB2 as kernel 2.6.32-10-generic although the kernel is installed on the machine. The kernel is not displayed into boot menu. It is not getting updated automatically by update-grub also. Any suggestions please ?

My OS Ubuntu has the following details:

Release : 10.04 build (Lucid)
Kernel: Lucid 2.6.32-7-Generic
Gnome 2.29.4

Although it is not going to help still here is hardware details:
Processor AMD Athlon XP 2000+
Memory 749.4 MiB

Thanks,
Rajinder

I suggest you log a bug to get this resolved, kernels should be added to grub automatically.

First off, Lucid is current alpha.
When installing test release, one should know how to solve occuring issues.
http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/lucid/alpha2
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

> kernel is not displayed into boot menu

Might depend on config in /etc/default/grub, such as hiddenmenu, timeout.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2

In case there is a separate boot partition check whether /boot/grub/grub.cfg is correct,
e.g.
two slashes are wrong, one is correct:
linux //vmlinuz-2.6.32-10-generic(-pae) root=UUID=....
initrd //initrd.img-2.6.32-10-generic(-pae)

However, updating hourly fixes mostly occuring issues.
