Why Ubuntu doesn't show version at boot screen?

Why Ubuntu doesn't show version and/or codename at the boot screen?
It may be needed for example if you didn't mark the burned CD with Ubuntu version. Or there may be more reasons to make it.

I mean it probably must be easy to realize. Why not to make it?

You can change the spash screen to show the version on the image. You can also submit this on:

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com
