Hi,

The simplest way is to go to Applications -> Ubuntu Software Center

Type vlc in the little search box

Click on videolan and install it. That will play your anime's and such.

As for flash, now type flash in the little search box.

You have the option of using the Ubuntu restricted extras, or opting for a fully free and open source implementation of the flash. I'll leave the decision to you.

After you have installed the flash plugin of your choice, restart firefox, and you will be ready to enjoy your videos.

Chat? You can use software like pidgin. Applications -> Internet -> Pidgin Instant Messanger.

Are you using Firefox as your browser?

I need a little more info, perhaps you need Java?

Go the Ubuntu Software Center, and install the Sun Java 6.0 Plugin.

When you go to youtube, does it play videos now? Or does it say Flash is not installed?

You could also try using the youtube plugin in Totem

Application -> Sound & Video -> Movie player

Or take a look at tinyogg
http://tinyogg.com/

I notice that the Ubuntu restricted extras package includes Java.
For most web based chat programs, that should do it.

Which sites are you trying to use that don't work?
