My serial port trackball mouse is not seen by Ubuntu 9.10

I have a dual boot system with Win XP pro sp3 and Ubuntu 9.10. Running on a Dell PowerEdge 400SC.
My problem is this:
Within Windows XP my serial port trackball mouse (Kensington Orbit) works fine, but within the Ubuntu OS, this mouse does not work at all. I have plugged in a USB mouse to get along, but I really miss my nice trackball.
I have downloaded all of the Ubuntu updates (till January-08-2010) yet I am unable to use my trackball.
Any suggestions out there?
