ubuntu 9.10 restarts itself

Whenever I am surfing the internet my computer will just restart itself at random times. Jaunty never did this but ever since I upgraded a couple of days ago I have had nothing but problems with it. I also lag like crazy on this newer version of ubuntu. What can I do to stop my computer from restarting everytime I try to do things on the internet?

Clean firefox mozilla profile

Close all opened Firefox and try to delete your Firefox user setting open a terminal from applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:
mv .mozilla .mozilla_old
and restart Firefox.

If you have a lot of bookmarks please export them before move your setting directory, then import them again from saved file into Firefox.
Also take note of your installed Firefox extensions, to reinstall them.

if this works then delete the .mozilla_old directory, from terminal, type:
rm -fr .mozilla_old

Please be sure your RAM memory is good:

To test your pc RAM memory chips:

- boot your pc press ESC when you see the GRUB row and jump to step "**"

or

- boot from Ubuntu live cd main menu and at first showed menu and

**) select the item "Memory test" to test your pc ram memory

Please run memory test for many hours or stop it and replace your memory chip if you get errors (the errors usually are rows in red colour)

If you have more than one memory chips plugged on your motherboard, to know which is the damaged
chip please run the memory test with only one chip plugged a time.
