Mplayer error occured while try to playing Videoes & Audioes.

When i try to play any Audio or Video "MPlayer "following error occured.
"Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.).
Please give me good answer.
I'm using Ubuntu9.10

Try using a specified -vo from the cli,

Ex.
mplayer -vo x11 /path/to/filename
mplayer -vo xv /path/to/filename
mplayer -vo gl2 /path/to/filename

If using a mplayer gui you'll find setting in the preferences ( gnome-mplayer is better than the default gmplayer

If a -vo that works is found can be set for cli mplayer in ~/.mplayer/config as such

[default]
# Write your default config options here!
vo=x11
