Boot menu too many kernel rows How to remove...?

I have installed linux ubuntu 9.04 and windows xp . When I updated security updates for ubuntu 9.04 and restarted
, in boot menu below were displayed:

Ubuntu 9.04 , Kernel 2.6.28.17-generic
Ubuntu 9.04 , Kernel 2.6.28.17-generic (recovery mode)
Ubuntu 9.04 , Kernel 2.6.28.17-generic
Ubuntu 9.04 , Kernel 2.6.28.17-generic (recovery mode)
memory test mode was there here
other operating system:
windows was displayed

HOW TO MAKE BELOW TO DISPLAY ONE TIME :

Ubuntu 9.04 , Kernel 2.6.28.17-generic
Ubuntu 9.04 , Kernel 2.6.28.17-generic (recovery mode)

AS ABOVE WERE DISPLAYED 2 TIMES IN MY SYSTEM DURING START UP . PLEASE HELP .

In system => administration => computer janitor, I believe it'll correct this.

Go to System > Administration > Synaptics Package Manager, search for "2.6.31-" and until the images that you dont want

Correction, search for 2.6.28
