Why no Opera Web Browser in my just unstalled 8.04?

Asked by WiiCoe

Installed 8.04 in older Celeron PC which provided choice of Opera Web Browser from Add/Remove.

Did similar install from Live CD on newer Celeron; no Opera Web Browser available in Add/Remove. Went thru update to assure I have all available free software for Ubuntu. I'm a relative newbie so will require dtailed info if Terminal/synaptic, etc must be used, though I'm perplexed why same CD would produce two different results.

in ubuntu version 8.04 * opera is not in the repositories, but you can download the .deb opera from the website, double click the .deb and you have your opera.

Appreciated both responses but gave the nod to actionparsnip for the helpful links for my further education.

Also, thought of my own answer as to why opera was available in my older installation and not in the newer one. My thought is since I installed 8.04 as upgrade to my installed 7.10, Opera was imported from my previous installation. My new installation was a complete reformat then I got the result indicated by leoquant.

I have another issue re my 8.04 install that I'll submit as another question. Meanwhile thank you both.
