Installing google earth breaks 9.10

Asked by Tony

I freshly installed 9.10 and did a system update. Then installed google earth. Google earth worked fine but once I closed it, could not open nautilus. Terminal programe will run, but has a blank screen with no text. Desktop settings are not available with a right click. Not sure what to do with this and would appreciate some help. Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I could not open a terminal from Gnome was no text in the window. I rebooted and was put into a text mode but with problems on the disk. I selected 'y' to fix but there was a long series of these. When I was able to hit cntl-D to reboot - was not successful. I wound up re-installing again and have not re-installed google earth.

I have also experienced a problem with a black screen that is overcome by turning off effects. A game programme (Frozen Bubbles) crashes. I had not experienced any of these problems with 8.04?

I was wondering whether the problems are somehow related to the graphics drivers?

Thanks again.
Tony
