Microsoft Office 2000 and 2007 Professional

Asked by Dr Denise M Noha

Merry Christmas all,

OK I need some help, my boss insists I have to use outlook. So I need get office installed on Ubuntu 9.10 because I do not want to go back to Windows.

So I have two legitimate discs - Microsoft Office 2000 professional and Microsoft Office 2007 (upgrade) professional. I cannot load them onto Ubuntu as per instructions on the web because I have two discs (one is an upgrade) so the installation won't work. Is there anyway to slipstream Office 2000 and Office 2007 onto one disc so that it will load on Ubuntu?

Cheers
Denise

What instructions?

Is your Office 2007 Key only valid for upgrade from 2000?
If you're trying to do this with wine I'd suggest you just do the same as you would in a windows desktop.

First install Office 2000 then use the Upgrade (?!).

Slipstreaming 2000 / 2007 on one disc seams to be nowhere ubuntu or wine for that matter and that question should be asked on a MS forum or similar.

To get best result with Windows and related app on Ubuntu please install Win on a virtual machine you can do it using virtualbox.
Steps:
1) install virtualbox

Here the related questions and answers: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose

2) create a virtual pc
3) install win on it
4) then start the virtual-pc and use it as a standard pc (with Windows installed) and install what you want.

Thank you to you all for answering. It seems that Outlook 2007 does not yet work on Ubuntu. I am aware of the virtual-box and unfortunately have to use windows to run outlook - and its not very good compared to Thunderbird! Thanks again for attempting to help.

Can you help with this problem?
