How I know my system affected by virus

I am using Ubuntu 9.10.Whenever i open any mounted drive or openoffice, a dot file created.Why this file is created? Is this a virus?

No its fine, MS office does it too. If you want to see it you can:

right click and make a new file in a new folder in your documents
click tools -> folder options and select to show hiden files (or whatever the option is in your version of windows)
you can then open the file and you will see a file next to it being created.

This exists as a kind of backup and will not be deleted if the app doesnt close gracefully (which is how both OOo and Office know the app had an issue and will offer to repair the file using both pieces of data)

In short its normal, don't sweat it
