pc will not boot

Asked by Craig

I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed and everything seemed fine. Til one day I went to turn on the pc and it would not boot. I obeserved the power on activities and noted the process stop just after the cd rom was detected..... no hardware detection.... no bios information displayed.

I have taken out all cards except the video card.... reset the cmos as advised by motherboard manufacturer - ASROCK and even taken the cmos battery out and put it back in after 30 mins.... but alas it did not boot.

I think my next move would be to take it to a shop for them to investigate the problem, however as I run Ubuntu I don't think the shop would be able to help.

My question is (finally!!) can anyone advise of a shop experienced in Ubuntu in Melbourne Australia that I can take my pc to? And.... if the motherboard is dead.... is it just a simple (?) job to replace the motherboard and plug everything back in with no issues with Ubuntu?

Appreciate any assistance

Regards

Craig

From what you are describing it could be one of many hardware issues -- but yes, if you remove the HD, isolate the issue and reinstall the HD Ubuntu should boot.
