Karmic Koala randomly freezes

Asked by Shane Price

Well, I have been an Ubuntu user for about a year now...and honestly love every minute of it. I am having problems with the latest Ubuntu release...9.10 Karmic Koala. I have a Compaq EVO D510 SFF. It has Intel Integrated Graphics.

Compaq EVO D510 SFF
Intel Pentium 4 Processor @ 2.26GHz
1 gig of RAM
Video is : Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G] Chipset Integrated Graphics Device

When I upgraded from 9.04, then my computer started to randomly freeze. Sometimes it would take 10 minutes, sometimes a couple of hours. There was really no pattern to it and I was using a variety of applications at the time. Someone told me that it was Compiz and walked me through disabling that and enabling the Metacity theme manager. This did not solve the problem, and the computer continued to freeze randomly.

Are there any suggestions here? 9.10 seems to be a wonderful release, but I can't use it due to this problem. Does anyone know what may be causing it?

Could you possibly try to do a fresh install of Karmic without upgrading from Jaunty?

ANSWER TO ZACHK

I have tried a fresh install, in fact I have tried upgrading, fresh install and Live CD...It does it on all three. It is just a matter of time.
