Downloading Xubuntu/Ubuntu Studio with Windows

Asked by Donald Randveer

I'm having download problems with Xubuntu (9.10 Karmic Koala) and Ubuntu Studio. I've tried to download the ISO image X86 files with two Windows XP Pro desktops and one Vista laptop. The file download starts out ok (using save to file location) but stops dead at around 10% to 50% of the total file size. This happens at any time of the day. This occurs with the Canadian and United States image sites. There are no issues with my internet provider.

I've successfully downloaded the Ubuntu Server Edition 9.10 about 2-3 weeks ago.

What would be the cause this problem? Has download traffic increased substantially from Ubuntu sites recently?

What I always use Donald is the minimal.iso, it's the only cd you'll need.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD

This is a text-based installer and will give you the option about half way through of installing k/x/ubuntu, studio, server, you name it.

I tried the minimal.iso for the Ubuntu 9.10 desktop. This worked fine. Thanks for your help.

P.S.

Also I tried using the Vuse bit torrent to down Ubuntu Studio 9.10. This was successful and a stable download.

Happy Holidays!
