On Win i downloaded ubuntu 9.10 .iso and it disappears

Asked by sam

I've downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 three different times now, choosing to save it on my C drive in Windows 7 x64. After download, the .iso is not there. Norton is not touching it (at least it's not screaming at me that there's a threat) and I have Windows Defender/Firewall turned off. Yet, its still taking up valuable disk space on my computer! I've even tried to display hidden and system files in Windows Folder Options, but its not there.

How can it take up space, but I can't access/see it? since the d/l is 689 MB, after 3 d/ls my C drive has dropped almost 2 gigs of space. Wouldn't matter, but either way - I can't burn it if I can't find it...

What gives?

Are you allowed to save to the C:\ drive. It might require administrative privileges? It shouldn't eat up 2 GB though. It's not even 1 GB. Windows is always doing system restore stuff which eats up a lot of space,

Try saving it to your desktop or something. Then search the web for a free iso burner and burn it to a CD. You can then delete it from the desktop.

Hope this helps. :)

I am logged in as admin. I can d/l other ISOs and save to c drive. I know, its odd, b/c even though a previous d/l was 689 mb, it doesn't even promt me to overwrite. and the new d/l takes up another 689 mb! and they are each being "saved" to the same directory every time, to the root of c drive.
I'm re d/l yet again this time c drive, but not to root dir.
This is so wierd, its driving me nuts.
