gnome login preferences missing

Asked by turntablist80

New to Linux AND Ubuntu, so I apologize for my lack of knowledge, BUT I downloaded some new login screens from Gnome's website, but I do not have the option to enable or install them because my login preference window is either missing, or just not displayed. Is there a bug for this, or do I need to re-install Gnome? I also downloaded some new themes from Gnome's site and they were installed with no problem. Can anyone help me out???

The ability to customise the login screen was removed in 9.10 (Karmic). I don't know why.

Since you didn't mention Ubuntu version and if we talk about Karmic, you may work through these guides:

Can you help with this problem?
