Installing Dell 725 Printer

Asked by fred

I am very green and would like some help to install my Dell 725 Printer on Ubuntu 7.04. I have checked the Dell site and don't seem to be able to find a suitable driver. I have tried installing the setup.exe file using the wine command in terminal however although I had the following command line"wine: 'home/quentin/ .wine' created successfully" I still can't print to my printer. Does anyone know where I can find a driver suitable for Ubuntu. Thank you

Hello Fred,

did you tried the installation without you driver?

panel menu ->system->Administration->Printer->add new printer and then check which local printer is detected by the system. Most of the printer works fine in this way.

In the same boat, and the above remedy did not work. Added new printer (dell 720) and while it detects, nothing prints. SOUNDS like its about to begin, but then nothing.

When installing the printer, the correct driver was not listed for my model, so i just went with the dell 1100 driver. is that my problem? if so, where can i get the correct one, i dont see it on dell site. Thanks so much, my grandson put ubuntu on my computer and so far its great! (aside form this!)

Can you help with this problem?
