ubuntu demo wiped my laptop?

Asked by blow230

I was browsing the demo on my Gateway Laptop (Original OS: Vista Home Premium). Once finished I turned it off, removed the cd, and restarted it. Now it gets as far as the Gateway Logo screen with the F2 and F10 options, then shuts off. I've tried rebooting from all of the cd's I have but nothing works. What's my next course of action?

Are you saying you cannot boot the livecd again? Does it just reboot?
I find it hard to belive that a "demo" (I belive thats what you call live or "start ubuntu without installing") would wipe a disk.
If you cannot get into the live again from a CD or get into Windows again , then you might have someting else wrong like hardware or the boot order wrong?.

If you can get into the live , open up a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal)
type sudo fdisk -l do you see multiply partitions?

Thanks for trying to help, but after pulling the battery and leaving it for 10 or so minutes... the problem seems to have fixed itself.
To further explain: After using the "Start Ubuntu without installing" feature, then removing the disk when I was ready to go back to my original OS, my laptop would not go past the brand's logo screen. It would immediately shut off as if it no longer had any OS.
As I said, it's turning on properly,, running fine, all my files are intact. I guess leaving it for some time did something.
