after dual boot is it possible to upgrade to only ubuntu?

Asked by Martyr

I am seriously thinking to switch from widows xp to ubuntu. I have never used any linux based os. I have run the live cd and liked the way it looked but it will not load firefox and the net. Im worried this is either a bad issue or you just cant do that with a live cd. Do I need to worry about this? Furthemore... If I choose to dual boot ( having windows and ubuntu) Can I take windows completely off the system if I choose without interfering with or damaging my system? please help

First off, I recommend creating a dual boot and staying with it. There are always some things Linux isn't good at - different from the things Windows isn't good at. If you really get Linux working fully and like it, it is possible (but not easy) to get rid of Windows without damaging anything.
As far as accessing the internet with the live CD, I THINK you should be able to do it. Linux isn't good at built in modems, but cable modems usually seem to work. Linux is best with specific printer manufacturers and fussy about some other hardware, so you might want to check to see if your hardware is supported fully before thinking about a full switch to just Linux of any kind.

Yes, that's it. On an external modem, I hope (do they have that with a built-in?). Usually works, so might be just that linux isn't installed yet.

Can you help with this problem?
