How to partition and format with FAT32 a new hard disk

Asked by Rich.b

I have a new Seagate External HD FreeAgent Desk 500GB formated NTFS

I would like to format it with FAT32

I have tried to format from a Windows 2000 Pro PC this didn't work

I am now trying to format it on a Ubuntu 9.10 computer and need to know which
format to use, as there is a bewildering array of options.

EG. from Mac OS X to W95 FAT32 (LBA) (0x0c)

I would like to copy file from a Ubuntu OS 9.10 and a PC running Windows 2000 Pro and transfer them to an iMac
which has not yet been purchased.

The easyest way to format partitioning a new hd in fat32 is to use gparted

Please first install it from Applications→Ubuntu Software Center

Store then use it from System→Administration→Gparted menu

Hope this helps
