No volume control Gstreamer plugin on Other user account
Heya,
I recently started a new account for my children. However, the volume control is not working and they cannot listen to music on their account. When trying to open the volume control I receive an error message that states :
no volume control Gstreamer plugins and/or devices found.
The sound works great in my main account but I cannot resolve this issue so far. Any assistance would be appreciated.

For each user you can allow/prevent use of sound in system/users, I encountered the same prob and found out that I had to check the option userX is allowed to use soundcard.
Hope this helps

I had already set this. Thank you for your assistance.
The problem seems to have been solved on reboot. I hope that it was a temporary situation that will not arise again.

kutta, I'm using good old Drapper Drake 6.06. However, I encountered that very error after creating and logging into a new account.
Try editing your '/etc/group' file to include your new account name i.e.
For a freshly created account, username: turntables,
add 'turntables' to the following entries in /etc/group
-------
audio:x:
dip:x:43:
...
video:x:
...
plugdev:
-------
and yo thang should be aight, worked for me...

Hi waggiddo,
I tried looking into the '/etc/group' file and I saw my user name is already in those 4 lines. However, I still get the "no volume control Gstreamer plugins and/or devices found." error message when I click on my volume control (which still has a" stop sign" on the icon).
Any idea what I'm missing?
Cheers.

Sol90, I'm in the same boat as you. This error message doesn't seem to give too much detail on the problem.
