Go to System > Preferences > Startup Applications

Scroll down to Visual Assistance and uncheck it.

ok when i do the update manager it says enter your password to perform essential parts of your system . it says the same thing to enter my admistrative password on a lot of things. well the problem is i never made a password so what password are they talking about? it won't let me do sh$I! thanks

wojox (wojox) said : #4

You should. What happens if you go to "System=>Preferences=>About Me"? Can you create one? and more importantly for your use, does it allow you to perform these functions if you do?

wojox (wojox) said : #8

Do you have automatic login enabled?

Duane Hinnen (duanedesign) said : #9

you had to of created a user when you installed ubuntu.

Like Larry Jordan said, go to System > Preferences > About Me. In the top right it will say
User Name: John Doe
Change password

If you forgot your password.

Boot into recovery mode from GRUB menu and look at the output of this command to see what your login name is.

Code:

ls -la /home

Assuming it's shoop, change shoop's password with

Code:

passwd shoop

Then, reboot and log in as shoop.

Matthew Lange (matthewlange) said : #12

Hi, trenton!

As duanedesign said, follow the instructions under "The Other Way" at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LostPassword

That should fix it :-)
