There is no root password, Ubuntu uses sudo.

U can set the root password as follows rt?
$sudo passwd root
password:******
retype password:******
is there something wrong in doin that?

there are many needs for a root password
applications such as SWAT use the root password to gain login
webmin does the same if i recall

unless you need the root password set i would leave it as is (blank and unacessable directly) to prevent any possible problems =)

You need to axcess root to use and up date clam av right or is there other way?
