mp3, wma, multimedia. How do I activate this component?

Asked by Roger Calvert

I need to know how to play the various multimedia files in Ubuntu 9.04? I have read several of the forums but I can't get a clear answer on what to do? I have both wma and mp3 files.

Thanks,
Roger Calvert

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
for gnome

or

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-restricted-extras

or

This still did not resolve my problem. Each time it said that it could not find ubuntu-restricted-extras. Any more suggestions?

Thanks,
Roger Calvert

Hi! try searching ubuntu-restricted-extras in the packet manager. If it doesn't appear, maybe you have to enable the "Multiverse" database from the "Software sources" list. then try searching it again and it should appear, then you can install it without problems.
Hope it helps
Nicola

If you run synaptic, make sure you have the multiverse repository enabled then close synaptic (important) and run:

sudo apt-gte update; sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Should do you ok.

Can you help with this problem?
