Are you trying to mount it manually, or where can you read this error message?
Probably the directory where you are trying to mount the disc is missing, you should create it. Are CDs working correctly?

Same error message here. This problem relate to Totem as far as I can see.
Both DVD media and Drive are in full working condition.

I will try to shed some light on the subject...

First used custom built kernel 2.6.12 and Totem (xine or gstreamer backend, same fault) can not find a mount point for /dev/hdc when clicking "movie" -> "Play Disc [CDRW/DVD-Rom Drive]". Note that normally it should say "Play Disc [Title of Movie goes here]".

The permissions for /dev/hdc are correct. I even tried to set up group read and execute permissions as well as user permissions and the error remain.

/etc/fstab entries for /dev/hdc are correct and DVDs can be mounted manually by users by either "mount /dev/hdc" or its mountpoint "mount /media/cdrom".
After this is done, a movie can be played in Totem by clicking "Movie" -> "Open Location" and type in "/media/cdrom" ("/dev/hdc" will not work).

Yesterday I dist-upgraded and used the 2.6.15-20-386 kernel and the problem went away... sort of. The DVD play when clicking on "Play Disc..." but the title does not show like "Play Disc [The Shining]". I can not say if it is the kernel or an updated package that solved this issue since the reason I used a custom kernel had been fixed in this version so I removed it.

Can you help with this problem?
