DVD & Bluray on ubumtu 9.04

Asked by PLogic

After considerable effort, I got a got a dvd to play on my ubuntu 8.10 box. Following similar instructions for a 9.04 media box in help, I had no luck in loading any of these:

1. Install the libdvdnav4, libdvdread4, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly packages.

When clicked, they're either not found or noted as virtual; nothing comes up in a search with Synaptics package manager.

In terminal I get these results:

type: sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

plogic@pmedia:~$ sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
[sudo] password for plogic:
sudo: /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh: command not found
plogic@pmedia:~$

I want to use the 9.04 machine as a media center and hoped 9.04 would overcome the problems in getting a Samsung BluRay player to work, but although 9.04 recognizes the player (so did 8.10), it won't work.

No Joy!

First attempt using Terminal commands under Ubuntu 9.04 "Jaunty Jackalope"

the response ended in "...2009-06-04 18:07:02 Error 404: Not Found."

So I resorted to the commands under Any Ubuntu Release and keyring:

early in the lengthy response was noted "...connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response......404 Not Found.

Later in the response, regarding medibuntu-keyring "...couldn't find package'

After running thru all that, several times, I inserted a DVD in the player, opened it using MPlayer, which requested a search for required plugins, which I did. The response was: "search for suitable plugins...No packages with requested plugins found". Specifically, it wants "DVD Source"

It looks like it should do. :) You could try to install the package "libdvdcss2" and see if that works:

sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

Can you help with this problem?
