Internet Explorer on Ubuntu 8.10

Asked by PLogic

Regrettably not every source is compatible with Firefox, Chrome, and other browsers. I need to use IE on my ubuntu 8.10 box because some agencies require it. I had the foresight to create a /windows partition upon setup and have been able to avoid Microsoft products heretofore. Because of earlier readability issues, I believe I formatted that partition FAT32. I have not loaded XP as a dual boot system and would like to avoid it if possible. Short of maintaining a separate machine as a Windows box, I need suggestions.

Thanks

Hello, PLogic. :-)

Do you have WINE installed? Wine is a program that lets you run Windows executable files, etc. You can get it with "sudo apt-get install wine", if you don't. Then, in the Applications --> Wine (This will be a new entry after install.) --> Browse C:\ Drive --> Program Files --> Internet Explorer --> iexplore.exe

I truly hope that I've solved this problem for you. If not, I have a couple of other suggestions.

Best to you, and good luck.

Also, sometimes Internet Explorer doesn't work terribly well in WINE, so you can also try IE4Linux. :-)

Firefox's User Agent Switcher extension seems to have done the
trick...still testing.

Thanks
