Can send but not receive email

For no apparent reason I stopped receiving email, just stopped. I have made no changes in any of the required setting of the email program (Firefox)

Are you using Thunderbird or Firefox (gmail, for example)?
Can you please clarify what e-mail client you are using?

Has the out-going smtp server address magically vanished from the preferences and settings?
