Access database conversions problems with openoffice

Asked by Anny

Hi there,

I'm just starting to play around with ubuntu at work as they are planning to switch from windows to Linux.
I am currently converting my excel without any problems but I'm having some problems with Access databases that I'd like to open with openoffice; I can see my database but all the forms I made in windows won't appear in openoffice :\
How can I transfer all my forms and stuff? or is this a bug? or is there just no way I can convert everything?

Thanks in advance ^_^

Hello Anny!

Apparently OpenOffice can not open or convert Microsoft Access files (.mdb) files directly.

I'm not familiar with the process, however I believe you can find some detailed information on the subject in the OOo migration guide:

http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/0600MG-MigrationGuide.pdf

I'm sorry I cannot be of any better help this time but please come back and visit us again if you have any other question.

Thanks for the question.

From the FAQ on the Kexi Project page http://www.kexi-project.org/wiki/wikiview/index.php?KexiFAQ:

Q4.1: Is reading/writing of Microsoft Access .mdb files available? If so, how feature-rich is this module?
A4.1: Currently, importing table schemas and data is supported using import driver (MS Access data types are carefully mapped to Kexi data types). Importing queries, forms, reports and web pages is not yet supported.
For Linux/Unix operating systems the import driver is available as separate package - find "MS Access import plugin for Kexi" item for your distribution on the Packages page. On Windows the driver is bundled in the installation package. See MDBDriver for more info.

I hope this helps
