sound problems

Asked by Mark Hodge

i just installed ubuntu 5.10 on my pc, and i don't have any sound. in fact it appears that it didn't even detect my sound card. this is strange because when i ran the live eval before installing, it did detect it, and it worked great. any suggestions would be helpfull. Mark A Hodge

If sound is working on the live CD, this is a good signe.

Are you sure that the sound is not muted somewhere in the sound controller ?

Right click on the speaker icon in the upper-right corner, open the sound controller and try to unmute everything and push the volume at max everywhere.

Lionel,
I am sorry. I made a mistake when I said the sound was
working during the Live Eval, it is not. I tried it again to make sure
again before I replied to you.
Thanks for you help, and any further suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
