nothing on the desktop after uninstalling Evolution

Asked by ash

Installed Ubuntu 8.1 and updated without a hitch. I deleted Evolution Calendar & KEvoultion Addressbook using the package manager. After a reboot and log-in, there is nothing but the cursor on the desktop. I would like to know if how to get the top and bottom bars back. Thanks so much.

kiwiadam2: when I selected Evoultion Calendar and Addressbook to delete them, it automatically highlighted a number of associated files to delete also. I don't know the names of all of them.

mak: the recovery option at boot time didn't work. Is there a way to reinstall programs if I cannot access the package manager? The only thing I can see is the cursor on the desktop. I can poke around and pull up the desktop search (and the internet through the search), but that's about it.

you can access difeerent things by pressing alt+f1 etc
try alt+f1 for menu. thn you can choose terminals from accessories. then in terminal type:
sudo nautilus
enter password and a folder will open.
this was for atleast opening a folder.

you can type in terminal:
sudo su
then type:
fsck

take a backup of data before you try this.

or run ubuntu through live cd and type fsck in the terminal.
see to it that the installed ubuntu partition is not mounted.
reboot without the live cd.
fsck will solve 99% problems.

enjoy.
