.exe files only work in windows, they're not meant to be run on linux (there's ways to do so, however since we're talking about drivers here, you need linux especific files). You need to find the canon drivers in their linux version.

Here's a guide to canon printers that you might find useful.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrintersCanon?highlight=%28canon%29

Additional idea: I read somewhere that the canon linux drivers are only in the canon japanese site. I checked it and although I cannot understan what it says, I find lots of linux drivers:
Example:
http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/ir/drv-linux.html
more in detail:
http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/lasershot/linux/lipslxlinux.html#parmition
You have rpm files to download there. If you find one that match your printer and feel venturous, you should give it a try.

According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsPrintersCanon?highlight=%28canon%29 :
For ip1000:
Download the following three packages from [WWW] http://www.mafia.or.id/bjfilter/ bjfilter-pixmaip1000-lprng-2.50-2.i386.rpm bjfilter-pixmaip1000-2.50-2.i386.rpm bjfilter-common-2.50-2.i386.rpm Then follow the instructions given at [WWW] http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=38995&highlight=pixma+ip1000
Adapt the instructions to the filenames of iP1000 printer.

These instructions belong to Ubuntu 5.10 but might be suitable for your current version.
