The same thing happened to me. I found something about a kicker with Control Alt F2. I got an error message about "kuniqueapplications:can't determine display. aborting"
Please help. I've already had to reinstall Linux 3 times. I don't want to have to go back to the evil empire. :(

Hi,

you can find instructions to get your panels back here: http://www.watchingthenet.com/restore-panels-in-ubuntu-back-to-their-default-settings.html

Open a terminal window, by pressing alt-F2, then type gnome-terminal in the box that opens and press "run".

In the terminal you do the following 3 commands
$ gconftool-2 --shutdown
$ rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
$ pkill gnome-panel

Now you have two new panels.

Regards,
Albert
