Need command to bring up desktop after log on.

Asked by trebor

Tried the ubuntu 5.1 OS live and was greatly impressed. Decided to install the OS on one of my other PC's. Used the ubuntu 5.1 install CD and every thing went well except when I went to log on and bring up the desktop I received what I assume was a request for a command. And I have no idea what the correct command line is to bring up the ubuntu OS. I logged on, gave my password and then get this need for a command line. From what I have read, the desktop should come up automatically after log on, but this doesn't happen. I down loaded the live and install CD from the internet, and assume that they are OK. Please advise, thanks.

Wanted to let ubuntu people know that I was able to solve my problem. I formatted the hard drive again and then re-installed the ubuntu OS, and every thing went OK. So far, I haven't been able to get on the internet, but I'm working on it. I am using DSL service with a ethernet card which I will change out and see if that helps the problem. Thanks for your help.........trebor.
