8.04--force quit feature?

Asked by John D Wood Sr

Is it possible with Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) to "force quit" an application? I have encountered a few websites that will not permit me to leave. Even after shutting down my computer and restarting, they still come up. Or is this a Firefox issue? Thanks.

There is a force-quit feature.
when you click the "x" button on an application (maybe multiple times) it should ask you whether you want to wait for the program to close or force-quit

another option is to press alt-f2 and open the program "xkill" - the cursor will change and any window you click the program will be closed

you can also, instead of xkill, enter "killall firefox" to close firefox. when you open firefox make sure to click "start new session" so you don't open up the website that froze your firefox in the first place

John -- I also had problems with this, sometimes the option to "Force quit" wouldn't come up.
I put Force quit Icon on the launch bar, and it seems to work OK so far. The Launch bar seems to pop, and the icon works even when the program win buttons don't respond to anything.
