SID files

Asked by swift240

Hi all,
Using Ububtu 8.04 on Athlon 64bit Dual Core.

I have a lot of Commodore 64 SID files, I would like to play them in Linux.
Is there a program out there that can do that?

TIA,

Mike.

There are few applications in Ubuntu repository which can play sid files. Unfortunately most of them (like sidplay2) are outdated or (likx xmms2 + sid plugin) hard to install and configure.
Probably the best one (well, the only one i could actually make to play sids) is called xsidplay, it's based on QT3 and works just fine. Only remember to set audio driver to ESD (Config -> Audio).

For those who like to play Commodore 64 SID files I also found Audacious plays them perfectly.

To get around the gnarly config of XMMS [which I couldn't get to work at all tonight, probably due to me being too lazy to read the man pages, arf] get WINE and a program called Sidplay2w.

Works perfectly, and plays back the individual tracks in SIDs, which I couldn't get Audacious to do out of the box [although if I recall there is a plug in to fix that].

Apologies for the bump on an old topic, but I was trying to get SIDs to work tonight, and found this was the easiest way if you are feeling lazy and don't fancy getting script happy or config heavy.

Obviously however, this is dependant on WINE working properly - if sound output from WINE isn't working, then Sidplay2w won't help much, arf.

Hope that helps,
Steven R
